Today, my heart is overflowing with joy as I reflect on a truly monumental occasion: Thomas’s first birthday. It feels utterly surreal how quickly a whole year has unfolded since his arrival. Looking back, I confess that the initial three months after his birth felt like an eternity, a period marked by intense adjustments and sleepless nights. However, once we navigated that demanding phase, time seemed to accelerate at an astonishing pace, transforming the rest of the year into a blur of precious firsts and incredible growth.

This past year has undoubtedly been the most challenging yet profoundly amazing year of my entire life. It was the year I embraced the incredible journey of motherhood, a role that reshaped my priorities and perspective. It also saw us move back to Brazil for six months, offering a unique opportunity to reconnect with family and immerse ourselves in different cultural experiences. Amidst all this, we embarked on wonderful adventures, traveling to captivating destinations like Argentina and Uruguay, creating cherished memories as a new family. Moreover, this was the pivotal year I officially transitioned into a full-time blogger, dedicating myself entirely to sharing my passions and experiences with you all. The sheer volume of these life-altering events feels overwhelming to recount, yet what truly makes it extraordinary is that I accomplished every single one of these milestones with my little boy, Thomas, right by my side. He was my constant companion, whether I was traveling to new places, meticulously crafting blog posts, or simply enjoying quality time with our extended family. He is, without a doubt, my happiest companion, and I’ve grown so accustomed to his presence that when he’s not around – which are indeed rare moments – a distinct emptiness lingers, a subtle feeling that something precious is missing from my day.

Thomas: A Year of Joy, Growth, and Unconditional Love

And so, here we are, celebrating a full year of our beloved Tomtom – a nickname that has become a term of endearment in our home. Our little boy has officially transformed into a big boy, and both dad and I couldn’t be prouder of the wonderful person he is becoming. We genuinely couldn’t have wished for a better baby. Thomas possesses the most infectious smile, a remarkably calm demeanor, and an incredibly friendly nature that endears him to everyone he meets. He is, in every sense, a truly happy baby. His cries are remarkably infrequent, and even when they do occur, they are fleeting and easily soothed, rarely lasting more than a minute, which means they hardly ever cause any distress. It’s a testament to his serene disposition.

While he hasn’t quite taken his first independent steps yet, Thomas navigates the world with the expertise of a seasoned crawler. He’s incredibly agile and quick, exploring every nook and cranny with boundless curiosity. His vocabulary is steadily growing, delighting us with adorable little sounds and words like “dada,” “nene,” “tata,” and, of course, the most cherished “mama.” Beyond words, his communication skills are blossoming through gestures. He claps his hands with enthusiasm, waves goodbye with a cheerful flutter, and even mimics us when we sneeze, creating moments of pure comedic joy that light up our days. What’s more, Thomas is remarkably sociable; he warms up to new faces effortlessly and rarely expresses discontent, adapting smoothly to new environments and interactions.

His routine is a testament to his thriving well-being. He eats heartily, savoring every meal, and sleeps even better – a significant improvement from the challenging first three months when sleep was a rare commodity. Now, he sleeps peacefully through the entire night, a blessing for all of us. Music holds a special place in his heart. Pierre, my husband, has a beautiful jukebox positioned prominently in our living room, and Thomas absolutely loves listening to music with his father. He’s often found bouncing along to the rhythm, attempting his own little dance moves, which are utterly hilarious and a constant source of amusement for us. These simple, everyday moments are what make parenthood so incredibly rewarding and fill our home with laughter and warmth.

A Farm-Themed Fiesta: Celebrating Thomas’s First Birthday

Speaking of music, Thomas has a clear favorite: “Old McDonald Had a Farm” and any other song featuring animals. His fascination with animals is truly remarkable, and for this very reason, there was only one fitting theme for his first birthday cake: a vibrant farm. He absolutely adored it, his eyes wide with wonder at the colorful characters and playful design. Witnessing his pure happiness at his little party was an absolute thrill for me. It was an intimate gathering, graced by the presence of my mother-in-law and father-in-law, who traveled all the way from Montreal to celebrate with us, along with a few of our closest friends. Unfortunately, due to the cozy size of our condo, we weren’t able to extend invitations to everyone we would have loved to share this special day with. Despite the smaller guest list, Thomas had an incredible time, playing tirelessly with his young friends throughout the entire afternoon. He showed no signs of fatigue; his only desire was to play, explore, and simply revel in the joyous atmosphere.

From Small Idea to Cherished Memory: The Genesis of the Celebration

To be completely honest, this party came together quite spontaneously, almost a last-minute decision. Initially, Pierre and I had envisioned a very simple celebration – just the three of us enjoying a quiet moment with a birthday cake. However, as the milestone approached, a deeper realization set in: this wasn’t just any birthday. This past year had been extraordinarily special for both us and for Thomas.
