Hello, wonderful readers! I hope you’re all having a fantastic week. Today marks a significant and exciting new chapter here on the blog. As you might have guessed from the title, “Life Beyond Cooking,” I’m launching a brand-new series dedicated to sharing more personal insights and experiences that extend far beyond the culinary world.

For a long time, this space has been a cherished haven for delicious recipes and food-related inspiration. While that passion remains, I’ve felt a growing desire to connect with you on a deeper level, offering glimpses into my life as a mom, wife, and food blogger. This new series is my way of bringing you along on the adventures, discoveries, and moments that shape our everyday, from exciting family trips and weekend activities to favorite online finds, beloved products, and the beautiful chaos of family life.

Typically, I share these more personal anecdotes in my newsletter (don’t forget to sign up if you haven’t already!). However, I realized that many of my loyal blog readers might enjoy these behind-the-scenes stories too. It felt like a natural progression to expand this platform, allowing us to explore more than just the kitchen. Praia do Forte: An Unforgettable Brazilian Family Getaway

To kick off this new series, I’m thrilled to share a treasure trove of pictures and memories from a spectacular beach vacation we enjoyed last month in Brazil. The destination was the stunning Praia do Forte, a coastal gem located approximately 80 kilometers north of Salvador, Bahia, in Brazil’s vibrant northeastern region. This area is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty and rich biodiversity, making it a perfect escape for nature lovers and families alike.

We specifically chose Praia do Forte for its pristine clear waters, magnificent natural pools, meandering rivers, and its vital ecological reserve, brimming with natural forests and diverse wildlife. For those who might not know, I am originally from Brazil, specifically from Salvador. While my family still resides there, I made the exciting move to Canada several years ago. Praia do Forte holds a special place in my heart, as it was a frequent retreat during my time living in Brazil.

When my Canadian in-laws expressed their desire to visit Brazil, I instantly knew Praia do Forte would be the ideal spot for their vacation. Its unique combination of tranquility and natural wonder promised an authentic and relaxing Brazilian experience. The beach is particularly celebrated for its calm mornings, where the absence of strong waves creates serene conditions perfect for young children and babies. At low tide, the coral reef reveals enchanting natural pools, offering a safe and magical environment for little ones to splash and discover.

This trip was particularly special as it marked baby Thomas’s first truly memorable beach experience. Although he had visited another beach with me twice before, he spent most of those times peacefully asleep. Praia do Forte, however, was a different story! He absolutely adored the beach—the soft sand beneath his tiny toes, the gentle lapping of the ocean waves, and the refreshing taste of fresh coconut water. Watching him revel in the ocean, mesmerized by the tiny fish swimming around him, was an absolute joy for all of us. The calm, warm waters made it an incredibly safe and enjoyable environment for him to explore and play.

Bringing Families Together: A Grand Reunion in Brazil

This vacation was also a momentous occasion, as it was the first time both my Brazilian and Canadian families were able to gather together in my home country. It was a beautiful blend of cultures and generations, creating memories we will cherish forever. My in-laws initially spent a few delightful days in Salvador, staying at my sister’s home, immersing themselves in the vibrant energy of the city.

Following our urban explorations, we all traveled together to Praia do Forte, where we had rented a magnificent beach house. This spacious retreat was perfectly suited to accommodate our large family, offering ample room for everyone to relax and connect. It boasted wonderful amenities, including a fantastic BBQ area, a refreshing private pool, and—most importantly—it was situated just 40 meters from the beach! The house’s location also put us in close proximity to the charming small village, which is teeming with a variety of delicious restaurants, artisan shops, and local delights, offering endless opportunities for exploration and culinary adventures.

The beauty of this trip was not just the stunning scenery, but the precious time spent with loved ones. It was truly a joy to witness my two worlds merge, sharing laughter, stories, and the warmth of the Brazilian sun. We savored fresh seafood, relaxed by the pool, and took long walks along the shore, creating a tapestry of unforgettable moments.

Projeto TAMAR: A Beacon of Sea Turtle Conservation

A highlight of our visit to Praia do Forte’s charming village was an educational and inspiring trip to Projeto TAMAR. For those unfamiliar, TAMAR is an abbreviation for “Tartarugas Marinhas” in Portuguese, meaning “Sea Turtles.” This incredible Brazilian non-profit organization is dedicated to protecting endangered sea turtles along the extensive Brazilian coastline. It’s a truly impactful project, playing a crucial role in marine conservation efforts.

Our visit offered a unique opportunity to learn about these magnificent creatures and the challenges they face. The project features several artificial pools, meticulously designed to care for sea turtles of various types and sizes, as well as other fascinating sea creatures. We were particularly captivated by the sight of numerous tiny baby sea turtles, each a symbol of hope for the future of their species. The center provides invaluable insights into turtle biology, their migration patterns, and the critical importance of preserving their habitats.

The experience at Projeto TAMAR is not just educational but deeply moving. Visitors can observe different species of turtles, from loggerheads to green turtles, in various stages of rehabilitation and growth. The dedicated staff shared stories of rescue and rehabilitation, emphasizing the fragility of marine ecosystems and the collective effort required to protect them. It’s a must-visit for anyone traveling to Praia do Forte, offering a meaningful way to connect with local conservation initiatives.

A Perfect Farewell: Our Last Day in Paradise

Our final day at Praia do Forte was nothing short of spectacular. The weather was absolutely perfect—bright, sunny, and wonderfully warm. We immersed ourselves in nearly six hours of pure bliss, savoring every last moment of our incredible vacation. The beach truly lived up to its reputation; the water was unbelievably clear, invitingly warm, and teeming with countless small fishes swimming playfully around us. It felt like being in a living aquarium, an experience that left us utterly enchanted. What a truly amazing beach!
